Making it

"Making it" poetry by Roshan James, Wellesley, Ontario, Canada

Text:

When the inner walls take a hit

And hand-hewn blocks start falling

Avalanching sideways

Tearing – with nails split and peeling,

From clawing at stone-closed windows –

Jagged seams of consciousness

Escape is the terror-muted, fear-cold craze

Of a mind caving in on itself

With just enough sheer-luck-trust

Fuelling the Divine’s tenacity

In pulling us through

To make it to the other side of devastation
