“Get your card out” contest rules and guidelines

Contest description

Take a photograph of you and your business card getting out and doing something awesome. The “Get your card out” contest (herein referred to as “contest”) starts on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at 12:00 am ET. The deadline for contest entries is Thursday, March 28, 2013, at 11:59 pm ET. After this deadline, we will select and post the top five entries for public voting through our Hot Quill Communications Facebook page.  The entry with the highest number of “Likes” will be the grand prize winner in accordance with the terms and conditions outlined below. Voting on the top five entries will commence on Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at 12:00 am ET, and will run until Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at 11:59 pm ET. The grand prize winner will be announced on Wednesday, April 10, 2013.

Photo submission guidelines:

  • To enter a photo, you must own the rights to the photograph.
  • Photos must be taken for the purposes of this contest. Photos that have business cards graphically inserted into the photographs will not be accepted.
  • Photographs may be cropped, and we will accept tonal or colour corrections. However, we will not accept photos with the following: borders, frames, text or other graphic treatments.
  • The photograph should be a high resolution image (300 dpi) and the file should be under 10 MB in size.
  • Photographs should be bright, and show action and interaction with others.
  • Your business card should be clearly visible in the photograph.
  • You must obtain consent from everyone included in your image and be able to authorize the use of your company name for the purposes of this contest.

How to submit:

  • Like and share our Hot Quill Communications Facebook page.
  • By clicking on the submit button at the end of the contest rules below, you can enter the contest by sending us an email with:
    • Your name, email address, primary phone number (to be used only for the purposes of this contest), and your social media handles if you’d like us to tag you in any Tweets or Facebook mentions about your entry.
    • Your photo submission as a file attachment (not copied into the body of your email). The photograph should be a high resolution image (300 dpi) and the file should be under 10 MB in size.
    • A description that provides:
      • Photographer’s name for the credit.
      • Names of people and companies represented in the photograph (be sure to check spelling of names).
      • Context for the photo – keep it brief, but provide the details necessary to tell us why your photo is awesome.
      • What you learned from this experience.

Prizes and acknowledgements

Five (5) top photo entries will be selected based on the criteria of uniqueness, creativity, and community impact. These top five photos will be featured on our Hot Quill Communications Facebook page, listing the photographers’ credits, and the people and companies represented in the images. These top five entries will also be mentioned in the contest wrap-up blog post in which we will announce the grand prize winner. Through the Hot Quill Communications Facebook page, the grand prize winner will be chosen based on the number of “Likes” that their photo receives from fans of Hot Quill Communications. The grand prize winner will win five hours of business communications consulting services through Hot Quill Communications and we’ll create one augmented reality (AR) media for their brand using Layar. The grand prize winner and their company will also be featured in a blog post to be written and posted on Quill and Curio. The grand prize has an approximate value of $3,000. The expiry date for using the grand prize and working with Hot Quill Communications on the blog post message is August 31, 2013. The grand prize is fully transferrable. If you win the grand prize, you may transfer the grand prize to another person or organization if you choose. This is a good way to share your win with an organization or not-for-profit that you support.

Contest rules:

  • This contest is open to residents of Canada only, 18 years of age or older.
  • In order to qualify for the contest prize and mentions on social media, you must like and share our Hot Quill Communications Facebook page.
  • You can submit one (1) high resolution (300 dpi) image per submission and one (1) submission is allowed per person or group. If you submit on behalf of a group, you need to have consent and provide the names of everyone who is included in the image, along with company names. Multiple people from the same company may each submit a photo for consideration.
  • Just in case you didn’t catch this under “guidelines” here it is again: You must obtain consent from everyone included in your photograph and be able to authorize the use of your company name for the purposes of this contest.
  • When the top five entries are posted on our Facebook page for voting, anyone who wants to vote for their favourite photograph will need to “Like” our Hot Quill Communications Facebook page for their vote to count.
  • The grand prize winner will be the entry with the highest number of “Likes” on our Hot Quill Communications Facebook page.
  • The grand prize is fully transferrable. If you win the grand prize, you may transfer the grand prize to another person or organization if you choose. This is a good way to share your win with an organization or not-for-profit that you support.
  • Most likely we won’t have to use this clause, but we do reserve the right to cancel the contest.
  • If your photograph includes anyone under the age of 18, you will need to obtain written permission from parents or legal guardians of these minors to include them in the photograph and be accepted as an entrant for this contest.
  • We know the majority of people will submit responsible and respectable photographic content, but we know there are also some people who may not. We reserve the right to disqualify any inappropriate entries.

A note about privacy, copyright and intellectual property

  • We will not share any of your contact information with others unless you have provided your Twitter and Facebook handles for sharing and tagging purposes.
  • Your images will remain your own intellectual property. By entering the contest you give Hot Quill Communications the right to use and distribute your photo for the sole purpose of this contest.
